This new Børresen X3 loudspeaker marks the creation of a completely new entry level into the Børresen loudspeaker universe.

Børresen Acoustics’ philosophy is to bring music closer to people by creating access to great, authentic and emotional music experiences. The Børresen X3 has been designed on the solid foundation of Børresen Acoustics’ development traditions, design philosophy and technological know-how.

The biggest challenge for the Børresen engineering team was to create an entry-level Børresen loudspeaker that was more affordable, yet still had the typical Børresen DNA and quality standard. To do this, they had to figure out which technologies and components from existing speaker models would have the greatest impact on sound performance and also guarantee the well-known Børresen qualities. The next task was then to find out how to make such a loudspeaker more cost-effective.

The Børresen X3 loudspeaker is not only a new entry-level speaker into the Børresen universe, but also represents a real revolution in quality and performance in its price range.

Xceed

Børresen X3 exceeds all expectations. The soundscape is huge, dynamic, and detailed – yet organic and musical. The speaker is voluminous in size yet elegant. The cabinet with carbon fiber inserts and the spread-tow carbon fiber membranes gives the speaker its own personality. All solutions are carefully chosen and optimized just like all speaker series from Børresen Acoustics.

This speaker is developed with the same philosophy as all other Børresen speakers which ensures an emotional musical experience out of the ordinary. Xtract

It is only possible to create such a performer if you have a lot of experience and knowledge. This speaker is created on all the knowledge developed from the M, 0 and Z-series. Furthermore you´ll find components from these exclusive series in this Børresen X3 speaker – for instance the brand new Spred-tow carbon membrane and the highly praised Børresen ribbon tweeter.

X-series Membrane

The X3 membrane consists of three skins laminated into a single unit: two layers of spread carbon fiber, with a layer of aramid honeycomb spacers in between.

The combination of these materials gives this membrane its unique properties. The spread-tow carbon fiber was designed to provide a skin with optimal stiffness. This unique feature of the membrane reduces sound-disturbing vibrations and resonances to unprecedented levels. The aramid honeycomb also has the best stiffness-to-weight ratio in the vertical direction.

A flat response membrane in terms of resonances paved the way to build a very transparent loudspeaker with a reduced size of the magnetic motor system to optimize costs.
Børresen Tweeter

The tweeter chosen for the Børresen X3 has the same design used in all higher-end Børresen loudspeaker series. However, there is a reduction in magnet and iron mass. This is possible due to the extremely high efficiency of the original tweeter design. As a result, the efficiency has dropped only slightly from the exceptional 94 dB to 88 dB, but this is still an amazing efficiency for a tweeter.

The tweeter operates from about 2.5 kHz upwards. The moving mass is extremely low at 0.01 grams. The fully concealed tweeter can operate at an impressive speed. The high robustness of this tweeter allows it to handle very high transients without causing any deafening dips.
The Cabinet

The surface of the cabinet is finished in black piano lacquer and reinforced with optical carbon fiber inserts. The cabinet is made of a heavily braced wood composite material that has the property of eliminating sound distortion. The material used for the cabinet also reduces mechanical influences, especially hysteresis. The sonic result is clearly audible. The Børresen X3 cabinet has six bass reflex ports. The tweeter is vented to compensate for the air pressure that builds up. The bass section consists of tuned ports calibrated for musically relevant frequencies.

Those who attended the High End Munich event last year will be aware of the X3 loudspeakers, the first model in the Børresen X Speaker Series. Having listened to the X3s and another (yet to be announced) product in this range I can tell you now that these are going to be hugely popular and are likely to fly off the shelves.
