Børresen M2 Gold Signature
Ambition, Refines
The Børresen M2 Gold Signature represents a further evolution of the M-series philosophy, bringing together uncompromising engineering, advanced materials and carefully refined technologies in a larger, more ambitious loudspeaker design.
Developed without concessions, the M2 Gold Signature is engineered to handle the most demanding music with composure, speed and ease, while preserving the transparency and natural musical flow that define the M-series.
Its design serves a dual purpose: to make a confident visual statement while integrating naturally into its surroundings. Every aspect of the loudspeaker has been considered not only for its aesthetic character, but also for its contribution to acoustic performance, creating a sophisticated balance between form, function and uncompromising sound quality.
Technologies and Components
With the Børresen M2 Gold Signature, the overriding goal was to challenge existing technological limits and explore new, unconventional approaches to loudspeaker design. This involved developing key components from the ground up, finding more effective ways to control resonance and vibration, and selecting materials with properties capable of taking sound quality to an entirely new level.
The Gold Signature Basket
The basket is far more than a mechanical support for the driver. As the membrane moves, compression and tension within the motor system generate minute vibrations that can travel through the basket, creating unwanted resonances and ultimately limiting transparency and tonal integrity.
For the Børresen M Gold Signature-Series, the basket has therefore been treated as a critical structural component, designed to combine exceptional rigidity with effective vibration damping. Its purpose is simple: to keep unwanted mechanical energy under control and prevent the basket itself from becoming a source of coloration.
The basket is milled from a solid block of austenitic stainless steel and finished with the latest Ansuz Signature surface treatment. This thin, multi-layer coating incorporates titanium, zirconium, hafnium and their respective nitrides, further enhancing stiffness, damping and mechanical stability. The finished structure then undergoes extensive cryogenic processing to optimize its mechanical properties.
By keeping the mechanical structure as quiet as possible, the driver is better able to follow the music without adding its own signature.

The Gold Signature Membrane
The Børresen M Gold Signature-Series driver membranes build on the same advanced laminate principles developed for the flagship M8 Gold Signature. Its three-layer construction combines an aramid honeycomb core with spread-tow carbon-fiber skins, creating an exceptionally stiff yet lightweight structure. The carbon-fiber layers help suppress unwanted vibrations and resonances, including those occurring well beyond the driver’s operating range, while the aramid core provides an outstanding stiffness-to-weight ratio.
To further optimize the membrane’s performance, an additional outer layer of titanium is applied to it, followed by a HI-PIMS (High Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering) process that deposits ultra-thin layers of zirconium, titanium, hafnium, and their respective nitrides onto the primary surface. This advanced Ansuz Signature coating significantly increases stiffness and shifts unwanted resonances even further beyond the driver’s operating range, contributing to exceptional clarity, speed, and fidelity. The result is a lower mechanical noise floor, faster transient response and greater control over the membrane’s behaviour.
For the M Gold Signature-Series, this advanced membrane technology is combined with the precision and mechanical control of the Gold Signature driver platform. The result is a midwoofer capable of responding with exceptional speed and accuracy, while keeping residual resonances firmly under control. In a compact 2.5-way design, this level of membrane control is essential in achieving the M Gold Signature-Series characteristic clarity, openness and effortless musical expression.

The Iron-Free Magnet Motor
When Michael Børresen identified that iron in a conventional driver’s magnetic system introduces high inductance—causing the voice coil to react sluggishly and blur fine musical detail—he set out to remove iron entirely from the motor. Eliminating iron, however, also removes the traditional means of directing magnetic flux, making a conventional redesign impossible. The solution required a completely new magnetic architecture, developed from first principles.
Instead of a single permanent magnet with iron pole pieces, the iron-free magnet motor uses four neodymium (N52) magnet rings arranged in mirrored, repelling pairs—two outer rings and two inner rings surrounding the voice coil. These magnets are mechanically compressed to form a perfectly symmetrical structure that distributes magnetic flux evenly across the narrow voice-coil gap. The result is a homogeneous magnetic field that remains stable at every position of the voice coil, ensuring linear motion without the hysteresis and energy storage associated with iron-based systems.
To stabilize the immense repelling forces between the magnet pairs and preserve the precise geometry of the gap, highly conductive, non-magnetic pole rings are inserted between the magnets. Earlier M-series drivers employed rings made from cryogenically processed silver, selected for its exceptional electrical conductivity and thermal performance. As the voice coil modulates the magnetic field during operation, eddy currents induced in the silver rings counteract these changes via the Lenz effect, dramatically reducing flux variation and electromagnetic damping.
The result is an extraordinary reduction in inductance—from approximately 0.5 mH in free air to as little as 0.055 mH within the iron-free system—eliminating nearly 90% of magnetic flux variation during playback. With far less resistance to rapid current changes, the voice coil responds instantly and precisely, delivering exceptional resolution, midrange clarity and dynamic realism.
For the Gold Signature generation, Børresen returned to the drawing board to develop a pole ring capable of reducing inductance even further. Building on the proven performance of the cryogenically processed silver pole pieces, the company explored additional non-magnetic, highly conductive materials and arrived at a hybrid solution. Inspired by Ansuz Gold Signature wiring, the new pole ring combines copper layered with silver and gold, followed by cryogenic processing.
This advanced motor technology is employed in the M Gold Signature Series drivers, bringing the latest evolution of Børresen’s iron-free architecture to the M-series. The hybrid pole ring further lowers inductance and enhances linearity, allowing the voice coil to respond with exceptional speed and precision. The result is a driver capable of delivering the M Gold Signature Series’ combination of resolution, transient accuracy, tonal clarity and dynamic expression without the mechanical and electromagnetic constraints of a conventional iron-based motor.

The Tweeter
The Børresen M Gold Signature Series is equipped with the RP94 Signature ribbon tweeter, a highly efficient design operating from 2.5 kHz upward with a sensitivity of 94 dB. Its aluminum-coated nylon/aramid ribbon membrane weighs just 0.01 grams, giving it an extraordinarily low moving mass and enabling exceptionally fast transient response.
Despite its extreme lightness, the tweeter is remarkably robust. Its fully enclosed motor system maintains linear behaviour even under demanding dynamic peaks, with no audible distortion or breakup across its operating range. The ribbon membrane can withstand temperatures of up to 600 °C without degradation, contributing to long-term stability and reliability.
For the Gold Signature generation, the RP94 has been further refined with a stainless-steel front plate treated using the Ansuz Signature surface process. This treatment improves the tweeter’s mechanical stability and resonance behaviour, allowing it to resolve even finer musical information while maintaining the effortless composure and speed for which the RP94 is known.
In the M Gold Signature Series, the RP94 Signature forms the high-frequency section of the loudspeaker design, complementing the iron-free drivers with exceptional speed, openness and precision.

Cryogenic Processing
The Børresen M Gold Signature Series benefits from the same extensive cryogenic treatment applied to the metal components throughout the M-series. The process is designed to further improve the electrical and mechanical properties of the materials, contributing to lower losses and allowing the finest musical information to emerge with greater clarity.
During cryogenic processing, metal components are subjected to extreme cooling, causing their crystal structure to contract and reorganize. Alloying elements are gradually displaced from the grain structure, producing a more uniform material structure that approaches the characteristics of a monocrystal. According to Børresen, these changes can increase conductivity by approximately 6–8%, while also reducing residual mechanical stresses within the material.
All metal components used in the M Gold Signature Series undergo this treatment. The complete cycle takes three days: during the first 24 hours, the material is gradually cooled from room temperature to cryogenic temperatures; it is then held at approximately -196°C (-321°F) for a further 24 hours before being gradually returned to room temperature over the final 24 hours.
This controlled cooling and heating process is essential for avoiding thermal stress. At the same time, it strengthens and compresses the metal’s grain structure and reduces residual stresses originating from the transition between its liquid and solid states. The result is a more stable material foundation for the M Gold Signature Series’ critical metal components.

Noise Rejection
Noise—whether acoustic, electrical or airborne—degrades signal integrity and can obscure the finest musical information. Minimizing both internally generated noise and susceptibility to external interference is therefore a central design objective of the Børresen M Gold Signature-Series.
In the M Gold Signature-Series, this approach is implemented at multiple levels. The drivers, crossover network, internal wiring and cabinet construction are all designed to reduce unwanted energy and maintain a stable signal environment. Ansuz Gold Signature internal wiring is used throughout, ensuring consistent signal transmission across the system.
Dedicated noise-reduction technologies are integrated directly into the crossover architecture, including Gold Anti-Aerial Resonance Coils, third-generation Analog Dither Technology circuits, Gold Tesla Coils and Active Square Tesla Coils. These technologies work across different frequency ranges to suppress unwanted interference, lower the noise floor and preserve fine musical detail, contributing to a more stable, focused and precisely defined soundstage.
The Tesla coil principle is based on paired coils wound in opposite directions—a double-inverted configuration. Both coils carry voltage, and when a voltage spike occurs, a corresponding counter-spike is generated to suppress the disturbance. Because noise spikes are primarily voltage-based and carry very little charge, this approach enables highly effective noise reduction. Multiple Tesla coils are implemented in parallel, with different versions complementing one another across different frequency ranges.

Crossover
The Børresen M Gold Signature-Series uses a serial crossover configuration, an approach chosen to maintain coherence between its driver sections through the crossover regions. Because the drivers share the same flow of electric current, the current remains phase-locked through these transition points.
Unlike conventional parallel filtering, where each driver receives its own filtered signal, the serial topology works by diverting out-of-band currents around the relevant driver. This allows the drive units to operate as a more unified system, preserving phase coherence and contributing to the M Gold Signature-Series’ seamless, highly resolved presentation.
The crossover itself is built without compromise, using carefully selected, high-performance components. Its coils are foil types wound with paper insulation and vacuum-impregnated with resin, creating an exceptionally rigid and mechanically stable structure.
The crossover capacitors are arranged in arrays of small, military-specification stack-foil types. Their construction offers excellent mechanical stability and extremely low inductance, while tweeter attenuation is handled by metal-strip resistors chosen for their very low noise and minimal thermal variation.
Together, these elements form a crossover network designed not merely to divide frequencies, but to preserve the coherence, timing and low-level information that underpin the M Gold Signature-Series’ musical performance.

The M2 Gold Signature Cabinet
The Børresen M2 Gold Signature exemplifies Audio Group Denmark’s approach to combining purposeful engineering with refined aesthetics. Its cabinet incorporates a distinctive curved recess on the rear, an element inspired by the Børresen loudspeaker stand that gives the enclosure a more sculptural and sophisticated character.
The base of the cabinet is prepared for Ansuz Darkz devices, allowing the loudspeaker to benefit from their advanced resonance-control technology while maintaining a clean and purposeful visual design.
The result is a cabinet in which form and function are closely intertwined. The M2 Gold Signature’s proportions, detailing and carefully considered geometry are not merely decorative—they form part of a broader design philosophy in which mechanical performance and visual elegance are developed together.
The M Gold Signature Driver Ventilation
The M2, M3 and M6 Gold Signature features specially designed ventilation for its bass and midwoofer drivers, minimizing compression behind the membranes and allowing them to operate with greater freedom. The result is faster, more agile driver response and improved dynamic expression.
The bass drivers are additionally supported by dedicated bass-reflex sections, helping establish a dynamic and harmonious balance between the low and midrange frequencies.
Bi-Amping
The Børresen M2, M3 and M6 Gold Signature supports bi-amping, allowing its bass and midwoofer/tweeter sections to be driven independently. This gives each section its own amplification and can provide greater power delivery, improved separation and a cleaner, more precise presentation.
Two approaches are possible. The first is conventional speaker-crossover bi-amping, where the loudspeaker’s own crossover divides the signal between the bass and midwoofer/tweeter sections.
The second is active-crossover bi-amping, which allows the crossover frequency to be adjusted externally. This provides greater flexibility when integrating the M2, M3 and M6 Gold Signature into a listening room, allowing the bass level and balance between the bass and midwoofer/tweeter sections to be fine-tuned to the room’s acoustic characteristics.
For this purpose, Børresen’s sister company Aavik Acoustics has developed a high-end Analog Active Filter, available in selected Aavik amplifiers. It provides an additional level of control over the loudspeaker’s bass integration and system response.
